If this is approved but the other action is stuck in some beurocratic limbo what will happen? Is there a means of making this conditional on the other action. Is there any timeline on these actions?
I am writing to express my dismay that the Commonwealth of Virginia is opting to pass on even more regulatory costs to childcare providers. Public officials and candidates for office love to go on and on about how expensive childcare is, but when you have the opportunity to make even a small difference for the providers, you opt to not do so. The state has been covering the costs of the background checks for years and even though we had enough surplus to give every tax payer $200 back, we can't cover the costs of our own government offices providing this safety check for our providers? And the fees seem outrageous! Who agreed to let Fieldprint profit almost $8 on every fingerprint appointment when we could use our local law enforcement office for a fraction of that cost? Childcare providers are villianized at regular intervals and it seems that the state would rather add to that by creating additional financial burdens than do anything to actually help. Please consider using state funds to continue covering the $58.23 per person background checks for the estimated 39,000 people who work in childcare in Virginia.
