CPST allows for individuals that are dually diagnosed to enroll in services. However, it does not allow for individual to engage in comprehensive services. For example, CPST allows for an individual with a SMI and substance use diagnosis to enroll in CPST. But the same individual cannot participate in ARTS Levels 2.1-3.7 (8.2.d). Truly evidence based practices would allow for collaborative, specialized treatment to address complex and co-occurring issues. CPST does not address SUD other than standard skills/education required of a LMHP. There is no assumption or requirement that LMHP or other staff have specialized skills to address co-occurring needs.
