Section 3 Onboarding and Training Concerns

The onboarding and training requirements of this program are excessive and unachievable.

At the risk of leaving some of the required trainings out, it appears that we’ll need to provide:

Pre-CPST training requirements:

  1. Adequate QMHP and QMHP-T onboarding trainings per the BOC
  2. On-going QMHP-T trainings
  3. Crisis intervention training (such as MANDT or CPI)
  4. Human Rights Trainings
  5. Agency-specific administrative and clinical training

CPST additions:

  1. Statewide mandatory modules (6)
  2. CANS
  3. MAPS (and ongoing check-ins)
  4. EBP trainings
  5. Additional assessment trainings (strongly encouraged)
  6. 6 statewide mandatory training modules
  7. Foundational Youth Mental Health Rehabilitative Supports and Services
  8. Foundational Adult Mental Health Rehabilitative Supports and Services

For LMHPs who already learning all about CBT in graduate school:

  1. CBT for anxiety, mood, personality disorders, psychosis, or trauma

These trainings are overly extensive and very expensive (CANS and MAPS, especially). This presents the following problems with business feasibility:

  • Too complex: extreme administrative burden
  • Incredible cost not likely to be made up for in rate increases
    • Lost billable revenue while training is taking place.
    • Need to pay for the training and pay the employee while they are in training without any billables to offset this cost.
  • Lost ability to serve clients – prolonged period before employee can start seeing clients and/or interruption of services for client while training is taking place.
  • Turn-over now represents a significantly increased cost for providers due to the monetary training investment.
    • Additionally, employees may come on board to meet training needs for overall employability and then quit.

It is hoped that the Department will reconsider and greatly reduce these training requirements, making it possible for providers to render these services.
